Bio
Mihyun Lee is an independent dancer and choreographer from Seoul, South Korea who is currently living in Berkeley, California, U.S.A. She studied Korean dance, ballet, contemporary dance, jazz, choreography, improvisation and yoga. She received her BA in Choreography from Kookmin University in 2005 in Korea and studied with Aesoon Ahn, Mina Yoo and others. She worked with Yoon Jin Kim Dance Company, YJK Dance Company, Dance circle 21, On&off dance company and Dean Moss. She enrolled at California Institute of integral studies in 2011 and studies Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology, Concentration in Expressive Arts Therapy.
She was a part of the production of Kisaeng Becomes You in 2008 and 2009 in Korea, Hong-Kong and New York, which received great reviews from the New York Times. After She moved to the Bay area 2010, she is focusing on contact improvisation. She had worked with Raisa Punkki, Anne Bluethenthal, Liz Boubion and Erika Tsimbrovsky. She improvises dance with Laura Inserra who plays Hang and percussion.
As a choreographer, she is curious how art and human body reflect personal history and our daily lives. It is her intention to explore the relationship between such subjects and dance. In her vision art is about modifying and transforming images, ideas, movement and stories.
